As they’re sleeping, the ship somehow finds itself in deep space in front of a massive alien ship. Eager to prove that the NAV unit wasn’t a waste, Jack boards the ship and discovers a giant sleeping alien as well as a bunch of large golden eggs. Later, the crew celebrates their score while, unbeknownst to them, the egg begins to crack.

Synopsis:

Emily Edwards is beginning her college freshman year away from her family; a welcome change given the summer she has had. Her best friend Beth had committed suicide the summer before, and she has been secretly haunted by her memories for months. Moving away from her past seems like the best way to start anew. The future looks brighter once she meets her roommate, Abbey, and the two become fast friends. Abbey is everything that Emily needs in her life; Abbey is energetic, playful, sarcastic, and the duo are seemingly aligned in their outlooks on life. They even have the same major: Psychology.

Abbey jokes with Emily about the rumors that their dormitory is haunted... and the weirdness begins. Late one night, Emily is terrorized by the ghosts of three girls, sending her on a quest to find the truth. She dives deeply into the school’s past and discovers the hushed history of The Lion-- a serial killer who took the lives of at least three female students from 1987 to 1991 before seemingly vanishing without a trace. Her investigations do not go unnoticed, drawing the killer out of "retirement." Now, Emily must convince the ghosts of The Lion's victims to bring him to justice-- lest his killing spree continues!

Creator Quotes:

"Banshees is everything I love about comics; a coming-of-age story that blends horror, mystery and crime noir in ways I haven't seen done yet. I can't thank Scout enough for believing in the work, and I'm beyond stoked to be a part of the Scout family. Buckle up for a wild ride, folks!" says writer Dave Dwonch.

Writer/Editor Jessica Baboni says, "Bringing Banshees to Scout Comics is really exciting for me, personally. This being my first printed work and coming from the retail side of things, I was overjoyed when Scout picked us up. I love that they have been so supportive of horror. I'm a huge horror fan and can't wait to show my love of genre to the world."

From Artist Skinner
Banshees is the perfect book to read as fall comes creeping in. Jessica and Dave's writing starts in a charmingly unsuspecting fashion and then immediately expands in a rich spectrum of horror, lovable characters, new supernatural concepts and enough twists and turns to keep you there until the thoughtful end! The art by Riccardo Faccini is a perfect match, visually enriching the tale! Dynamic, spooky clarity just how I like! I'm all in on BANSHEES!

Corrected Version Of AZZA THE BARBED Issue #1 Will Be Shipping Along With Issue #2 Next Month!

Corrected Version Of AZZA THE BARBED Issue #1 Will Be Shipping Along With Issue #2 Next Month!

September 21, 2022 saw the premiere of Scout Comics’ issue #1 of Azza the Barbed, a new fantasy epic written by Pat Shand with artwork by Rio Burton and lettering by Jim Campbell, or at some of the lettering.  The issue was printed in error with the second half of the book missing all of Jim’s work.  This was not a new avant-garde approach to storytelling contributed by the creative team, it was a mistake on the publishing side.

A new printing of Azza the Barbed #1 is already in production and will be released simultaneously with the second issue of the fantasy adventure series.  Retailers are being asked to destroy the existing copies, but collectors may still be able to find some copies in stores.

The series tells the story of Azza who was born into a family that, for generations, served in the Obsidian Guard, a military unit of holy warriors. During Azza's Coronation, a magical ceremony that would imbue her with a holy glowing power, something went wrong. Instead of the sacred Obsidian tattoos, she became disfigured with thorned, black markings and was banished by her people. Now, Azza lives in solitude guarding a great evil...but when that evil escapes and begins to spread its wicked power, Azza must make a choice: save the people that expelled her or allow her home town to fall to darkness. With an emotional, comedic, and awe-inspiring story of empowerment, Azza the Barbed blends fantasy, adventure, mythology, horror, and action in this unforgettable new series.

The adventure continues on October 19, 2022 with both issues #1 and #2 being released.  Reserve yours today at your local retailer and possibly add the error-printing to your collection before they are taken off the shelves.

NEW RAT CITY Is About A Dystopian New York That’s One Bad Day Away From Being Ruled By Rodents. Out Now From SCOUT COMICS!

NEW RAT CITY Is About A Dystopian New York That’s One Bad Day Away From Being Ruled By Rodents. Out Now From SCOUT COMICS!

Logline:

In a near-future New York City, curious pest controller Felicia Shepherd discovers how the mystery of her mother’s disappearance is related to the biggest threat facing the flooding, rat-plagued city.

Synopsis:

New York City, 2083. After decades of floods, infrastructure disasters, and abandonment, what was once the greatest city on Earth has shrunk to a shadow of its former glory.

Pest controllers keep the city livable for the few people who remain. They're limited by law to using non-lethal methods like sound cannons and pheromones, until a massive rat horde spurs the mayor to lift the no-kill order for two weeks so tourists don't stop visiting.

Raised to believe it was morally indefensible to kill an animal, Felicia Shepherd is a pest controller who tries to deal with the swarms of rats and roaches plaguing her city without hurting anything. As if that weren't enough, she's also wrestling with a growing suspicion that her mother, who disappeared after a horrible accident with a neural implant, isn't actually dead. And the fact that the rat and roach swarms seem to be... talking to her.

Creator Quotes:
"This story has been pestering me for many years, and when I finally started writing the script for the first issue I did it with the plans to send it to Scout. As someone who's relatively new around here, it means the world to me to have my first completed series published by a company who puts out great work and supports indie creators in everything they do."
 - Honor Vincent

"Working on New Rat City was one of the best experiences of my career so far. It's an incredible universe, designed and developed by a super creative team. I was the first fan of this comic and I tried to render a beautiful (and disgusting) post-apocalyptic rat world through my art." - George Quadros

Reviews:

"A semi-dystopian New York that’s one bad day away from being wholly ruled by rodents and roaches shouldn’t look this bright, shouldn’t be populated with generally positive people. But it is, and it works. With the combined efforts of a great team of creators, New Rat City is a smart piece of speculation and just an all around entertaining read." -
